SUMMARY:Hands on Habitat - Beaver Works Volunteer Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:This is a one-day project to plant beaver and other wildlife habitat in Tetherow Crossing Park in Redmond\, Oregon \nDifficulty level: Easy/Medium \nItinerary: Planting will take place between 9AM and 4PM on Saturday\, October 21st. \nTasks will include: Digging in somewhat-rocky soil\, assessing survival\, growth rate\, and recruitment of existing plants\, planting potted native riparian plants\, removing weeds by hand\, and installing wildlife trail cameras. \nWhat you’ll need: A positive attitude and work ethic; Plan to bring your own lunch and we’ll bring the special treats. We’ll have work gloves\, but feel free to bring your own. Work will be outside\, so dress for the weather. \nAbout the Location: Tetherow Crossing Park occupies a scenic stretch of the trout-filled upper Deschutes River. This park is home to one of the oldest standing houses in Deschutes County. Our work site is in a really picturesque and accessible section of the park. Volunteers will be part of the second stage of a multi-year project\, as well as learn about beaver\, wildlife habitat use\, and riparian restoration. There are no bathrooms nearby. \nWe’ll need about 10 people for this project – so share this with your friends and make a fun day out of it while helping to restore beaver habitat! \nSIGN UP HERE!

DESCRIPTION:Join us in our Kansas Avenue Learning Garden for our ongoing volunteer work party series. In 2022\, volunteers contributed over 200 hours to help keep our learning garden maintained over the growing season. We couldn’t do it without you! \nThis event is open to all ages and gardening abilities! No experience or tools required. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages are provided for all who volunteer. Each event includes seasonal ongoing tasks as well as special projects as needed throughout the growing season. Volunteers are welcome to pop in for an hour or stay the whole time. No need to RSVP or commit ahead of time. (Pro tip – put the following dates in your phone calendar now – then when it pops up you can decide if it works out for you or not!) \nIn 2023\, Happy Hour in the Garden will once again run twice a month from March through October. DESCRIPTION:Making Energy Work Quarterly Webinar: Unpacking Federal Funding Bottlenecks for Rural Energy in Oregon \nNovember 29th\, 11am – 12pm \nREGISTER HERE \nFor our fourth quarterly webinar of the year\, the Making Energy Work for Rural Oregon coalition will host a lively discussion on the federal funding landscape\, and how communities are (or are not) accessing these historic investments. \nWe will be joined by Emma Wendt\, Place-Based Strategy Lead with the U.S. Department of Energy (U.S. DOE)\, who will share updates from U.S. DOE and guidance for rural communities on accessing federal dollars. DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Northwest and Energy Trust of Oregon are hosting a 2023 Energy Resilience Planning for Local Governments Workshop. This workshop will connect city and county staff with funding\, resources\, and organizations to help with the planning and implementation necessary to make your community more energy-resilient and prepared for future disasters. \nDate: Friday\, Dec. 8th\, 2023 \nTime: 9:30am – 12:30pm (Virtual on Zoom) \nWho should attend?  Oregon city\, county\, and/or special district staff as well as community-based organizations that support emergency management\, economic development\, planning\, hazard mitigation planning\, sustainability\, or energy conservation are encouraged to attend. \nWhat will be covered? This workshop will share information about funding for energy resilience planning and project development\, connect attendees to technical assistance providers\, and identify next steps to integrate resilience planning into existing planning processes\, particularly for capacity and resource-strapped communities. \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here!
