SUMMARY:Advocacy Training: Giving Testimony
DESCRIPTION:FoFF’s goal in this advocacy workshop is to increase the number of farmers giving testimony in the 2023 legislative session. Legislators hearing directly from the farmers has a major impact on the outcome. Come to this workshop\, the second in a series of three\, to learn how to find information on a bill (in OLIS)\, what the opportunities for testimony are\, where/when in the process they occur\, what is most relevant to communicate\, the benefits of oral vs written testimony and what is the impact of constituent testimony. FoFF is partnering with PCUN to help you understand the importance of testimony in the legislative session and how to use your voice to gain collective power.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Bicycle Transportation - Models for Change
DESCRIPTION:Hear what one of Bend’s transportation engineers learned about making walking and biking in cities safer and more enjoyable – and about how to apply similar strategies in Bend. \nRobin Lewis joined a cohort of transportation professionals and students from Oregon to study transportation infrastructure and safety in Denmark and The Netherlands this summer. Their goal was to “discover how we can create great communities and what role transportation systems\, including bicycling transportation\, play to improve livability\, connect people to other people and places to sustain a healthy environment.” Robin will share her take-aways and answer your questions.\nLight refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP to our Facebook event (click here!!). \n*We will gather at The Environmental Center; this event does not necessarily reflect the mission/opinion of The Environmental Center.

SUMMARY:Stand Up for DEI
DESCRIPTION:Have you heard comments like this?\n“Teaching Critical Race Theory is part of what makes Replacement Theory real; first they try to convince us that white people are bad\, then they work to replace us with people of non-white heritage.”\nThe problem isn’t that the comment makes sense\, it’s that it makes so little sense it’s hard to know where to begin to defend or dispute what’s being said in the echo chamber of the anti-Critical Race Theory lobby.\nSince the claim that Critical Race Theory (CRT) is divisive and hurtful to the cultural fabric of the U.S.\, public school administrators and teachers\, parents\, corporate leaders\, advocates\, and diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI) professionals have been caught flat-footed when trying to respond to false claims from anti-CRT activists.\nIt’s time to defend the real history of racism in the US.\nThis STAND UP FOR DEI&B interactive webinar helps attendees learn how to create their own strategies to effectively engage in dialogue with those who are choosing to go along with fiction over facts when it comes to DEI.\nIn addition\, you’ll gain the tools to:\nLearn what Critical Race Theory is and isn’t\, and become comfortable talking about it.\nShift from debating the topic to being curious and clear about your opinions on CRT and share them with those who have different viewpoints.\nEngage skeptics as partners in advancing DEI\nTalk about and address the real history of systemic oppression and disadvantage in the U.S. without prompting defensiveness or shame.\nIn the words of CRT co-author Kimberlé Crenshaw\, “When they make racism unnamable\, they make racial justice unreachable\, and then our multi-racial democracy is unattainable.”\nRegister
