SUMMARY:UP North Loop Talks
DESCRIPTION:Imagine walking out your front door one day in May and not coming back until early November\, covering more than 2\,600 miles on foot between those two days. \nThat’s just what Ras and Kathy Vaughn did last year when they embarked on a journey through the Pacific Northwest\, stitching together portions of several long trails in order to create one massive loop hike. \nRas and Kathy – also known as Team UltraPedestrian – were the first people to ground-truth a possible cross-country connection between the Idaho Centennial Trail and the Oregon Desert Trail\, a route which also includes extensive cross-country travel. With a bit of shimmying through canyons and a few twists and turns\, they made it work. \nThis adventurous thru-hiking duo will be presenting near you soon: \nUP North Loop Talks \n\nApril 11\, 7 p.m. | Footzone\, Bend\, OR\nApril 24\, 7 p.m. | Mountain Supply\, Bend\, OR\nMay 7\, 6 p.m. | Deschutes Public Library\, Downtown Bend\, OR

SUMMARY:Desert Naturalist Hike Series: Chimney Rock Family Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 1st\, celebrate the 10th year of the Oregon Badlands Wilderness by exploring the surrounding area on a family adventure with author Wendy Gorton of 50 Hikes with Kids: Oregon and Washington (a National Outdoor Book Award prizewinner)! We’ll explore one of the hiking routes and scavenger hunts from her book — kids will receive their own nature journal\, learn how to stop and try to identify species\, do nature photography with camera phones\, and “power up” by stopping at switchbacks and playing nature games. \nDifficulty: Moderate. At 2.8 miles round trip with 566 feet elevation gain\, this is considered a challenging hike for little ones but very do-able with plenty of stops and water! Bring layers\, water\, a hat\, sunscreen\, first aid kit and any other items your child needs to have a good time outdoors. \nPlenty of mid-day snacks will be provided by Newport Avenue Market. Attendees are welcome to pack additional lunches. \nPlease note that space is limited and pre-registration via Eventbrite is required. If the trip is filled when you go to register\, we encourage you to sign up for the waitlist as spaces do open up on these hikes. Click here to register.

SUMMARY:Mythic Wolf Stories
DESCRIPTION:Central Oregon Chapter of Great Old Broads for Wilderness and Oregon Wild are sponsoring a conversation and presentation by Susan Strauss. Susan will present ancient stories from world cultures that pre-date the Dark Ages of Europe and the advent of such misleading tales as “Little Red Riding Hood”. \nThe purpose of the evening is to be inspired by this ancient wisdom to write letters objecting to the Trump Administration’s proposed delisting of the wolf from the Endangered Species List.  All letters will be collected at the end of the evening and mailed in bulk to the Center for Biological Diversity.  This will support the Center’s legal efforts to thwart the wolf’s delisting. \nPlease register in advance.

SUMMARY:4th Annual Faces of Farming Gala
DESCRIPTION:Central Oregon Locavore presents:\nInnovation in Farming\n4th Annual Faces of Farming Gala\, Silent Auction and Farm to Table Feast\nDo you love fresh\, nourishing food and the hard-working souls who make it possible? \nJoin Central Oregon Locavore on Friday\, May 3rd\, at The Tetherow Resort Event Pavilion for an evening of artful and delicious surprise\, designed to honor the hardy and dedicated people who grow and raise our food in Central Oregon. \nThis event will include a photograph narrative of our local farmers and ranchers\, a silent auction\, local wine\, beer and cocktails\, and an extensive menu showcasing the bounty of local farms and ranches brought to you by Chef Miguel and the culinary team at Tetherow.  \nThis years theme is Innovation in Farming. As casually observed by many\, and truly noticed by few\, farmers are the ultimate innovators. From fixing broken machinery\, to crafting complex security systems for curious livestock\, to gently tricking plants to a higher yield\, an extra month of production\, or an early germination\, farmers and ranchers are the ultimate craftsman. It takes a certain type of ingenuity\, or mad genius\, to contend with nature. And farmers have just that type of genius it takes. After all\, necessity is the mother of creation. Faces of Farming serves to connect those passionate about our sustainability\, cultivates strong relationships and celebrates the potential in all of us.

SUMMARY:The Dam Fiasco at Bull Flat: A look back at the 1913-1914 Tumalo Project

Join Mike Berry for a presentation on the follies and foibles of the Tumalo Project.

This film takes the viewer through the diverse landscape and draws upon diverse voices to tell the story of why these lands are worth protecting\, why oil and gas production\, off-road vehicle use\, mining\, and even politicians are risking the integrity of the landscape\, and what can be done to ensure these public lands are protected for generations to come. \nJoin us for the screening of the film and a discussion about public lands and what you can do to protect them. \nSponsored by Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance. Please RSVP on Facebook or email  waor@suwa.org.
