SUMMARY:Black Lives Matter Rural Strategy Session
DESCRIPTION:As we keep showing up to demand that Black lives are given the dignity they deserve\, we are also upholding democracy. We’re taking our demands to our city councils. We are calling our local police departments to hold them accountable for arresting peaceful protesters and not the armed white supremacists trying to threaten people into silence. We are writing letters to the editor in our newspapers and spreading the word on social media to make it clear that these protests are not being called for by outsiders coming to our towns to spread discord–they are coming from those of us who live and work and raise our families in these communities and who believe that every person should be able to do the same without fear.

SUMMARY:Webcast: Knowing Oregon's Bees
DESCRIPTION:Knowing Oregon’s Bees\nFrom wilderness areas to urban backyards\, bees are always underfoot yet often unseen. With over 500 species\, Oregon’s bees play a crucial and often invisible role in the pollination of our  native flora\, and an even less appreciated role in the productivity of our home gardens and industrial farms. Despite their importance\, relatively little is currently known about which species live here\, where they live\, and how they make their living. A lack of baseline data presents challenges for assessing the health of Oregon’s bees\, and a lack of public awareness inhibits successful intervention on behalf of declining species. \nIn this talk\, August Jackson will present a vividly illustrated exploration of the diversity of Oregon’s bee species\, their varied life histories\, and examples of their relationships with our native flora. Getting to know our native bees is the first step to seeing them everywhere you go\, and to appreciate the vital role they play in our ecosystem. \nChandra LeGue\, Oregon Wild’s Western Oregon Field Coordinator\, will also talk about how past and current forest management – from salvage logging to aerial spraying – harms native pollinators\, and how efforts to protect and restore Oregon’s diverse forests and wildland habitat benefits them.

SUMMARY:Nowheres Wolf: A Stop Motion Film
DESCRIPTION:Oregon’s most famous wolf made history after traveling thousands of miles across Oregon and into California. OR-7\, also known as Journey\, became the first confirmed wolf west of the Cascades since gray wolves had been eradicated in 1947. His welcome return brought inspiration and hope that his species could once again thrive on their ancestral lands.\n\n\nJoin Oregon Wild for a special work-in-progress screening of NOWHERES WOLF and take a deeper dive into the fascinating world of stop-motion animation. Hear from Suzie Moulton on her inspiration for creating the film and how you can help finish it. SUMMARY:Nature Journaling Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Nature Journaling Workshop Series: This series starts on June 2nd and continues on Tuesdays in June. \nNature journaling is the practice of drawing and writing in response to observations of nature. Enjoy a “conversation with nature” by slowing down to notice and record what you see in our natural surroundings. Due to the nature of this virtual class\, the instructor will bring various items from the natural world to a virtual classroom for viewing. With prompts and guidance from the instructor\, students will be able to draw what they see and write “field notes” about their accompanying thoughts and observations. This series is offered by OSU Extension in Washington County and taught by artist Elizabeth Higgins. Register today. Space is limited. \nContact for questions and requests for accessibility-related accomodations: Alice Phillips alice.phillips@oregonstate.edu
