SUMMARY:Spring Gardening Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Native Bees and Plants taught by OSU Master Gardener Toni Stephan \nMany pollinators are suffering due to loss of habitat and floral resources. However\, research shows that even the smallest of home gardens is beneficial for our pollinators. This class will cover some of the things every gardener can do to help our pollinators. A photo show including ornamental and native plants for our local pollinators\, primarily native bees\, will be part of the presentation.

SUMMARY:Spring Gardening Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Greenhouse Design for All-Season Growing taught by Eileen Obermiller\, Landscape Architect \nWhat can I expect to germinate\, grow\, and harvest with a residential All-Season Greenhouse? How much effort does it take to make it work?  How is a residential All-Season Greenhouse different from a typical greenhouse? Does it need winter heating? What happens when temperatures drop to minus 20 degrees? Won’t it overheat in the summer? We will answer these questions focusing on which vegetables are best suited for summer verses winter growing\, when to plant those seeds\, and how to prolong harvests.  We will discuss strategies for collecting and storing heat as well as other important considerations in the design of a residential All-Season Greenhouse. \n

SUMMARY:Spring Gardening Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Firewise Gardening taught by OSU Horticulture Professor Amy Jo Detweiler \nAs the Western United States population continues to grow\, more and more homes are creeping into forest and rangeland areas called the wildland urban interface. The number of wildfires in combination with this urban sprawl can potentially increase the number of fire-prone landscapes. Learn more about creating a fire-wise landscape. In this class you will learn about fire behavior basics\, ways to reduce the fuel load\, ways to design your landscape in the home ignition zone\, characteristics of fire-resistant plants\, and plant selection for your fire-wise design. \n

SUMMARY:Spring Gardening Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Water-wise Gardening taught by OSU Master Gardeners Pat Kolling and Chris Miao \nWith continuing drought and increased population growth in Central Oregon\, water conservation in the garden is critical.   Your garden doesn’t have to be dry\, lack color and  variety to be water efficient. The instructors will share with you the wisdom they gained in the development and maintenance of the Hollinshead Water-wise Demonstration Garden.  Learn tips on planning\, plant selection\, irrigation and maintenance of a beautiful\, water wise garden.
