SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting for Rooted Homes’ Poplar Community
DESCRIPTION:Please join Rooted Homes\, in partnership with the Bend Chamber\, in celebrating the completion of the new Poplar Community! \nThe ceremony will take place in a heated tent and begin with home tours from 12:00PM to 12:15PM\, followed by speaker comments from 12:15PM to 12:45PM\, including a special note from Deschutes County Commissioner Phil Chang. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and photo-op will be at 12:45PM. RSVP recommended to Jackie Keogh at jackie@rootedhomes.org \nQualified\, first-time homebuyers were encouraged to apply for the homeownership opportunity in this workforce housing pilot project. Employees of the employer partners received two preference points in the public lottery selection process. \nThe purpose of the pilot is to demonstrate that employers can support a path to homeownership for their employees. As part of the proof-of-concept\, the Bend Chamber is sponsoring four of the seven new homes in the Poplar development\, thanks to financial support from Providence Health Plan and specific Bend Chamber members. The sponsorship helps support the difference between the cost to build these homes and what income-qualified homebuyers can afford. \nThe Poplar Community project includes seven 3-bedroom\, 2-bath homes designed to net-zero energy standards for households earning equal to or less than 80% of Area Median Income. These homes\, designed by Ten Over Studio and constructed by Solaire Homebuilders\, are located on Rooted Homes’ land and retain a deed restriction that ensures each subsequent home resale will preference employees of qualified employer partners\, extending this benefit to the Bend workforce in perpetuity. \nRooted Home’s Mission \nProvide environmentally sustainable and permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for those who contribute to the fabric of the Central Oregon economy and community. \nBend Chamber’s Mission \nCreate an environment where businesses\, their employees and our community excel together through collaboration\, advocacy\, resources and leadership to meet Bend’s business challenges.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Appliance Standards Update - Impacts on Gas Prices and Electrification
DESCRIPTION:Appliance efficiency standards aren’t something most of us think about very often\, but they have helped to reduce our energy consumption and our energy bills enormously since standards first took effect in the 1970’s. Heat pumps have made significant energy saving improvements in that time\, but energy efficiency standards for gas furnaces and water heaters have hardly changed in over 30 years. The Department of Energy is poised to update standards on these two home appliances and the new efficiency requirements could dramatically accelerate the use of heat pumps nationally. \nNew water heater standards could make heat pump water heaters the dominant water heating technology by the end of the decade (up from 2% today). The proposed new gas furnace standards would mean that replacing an old low efficiency furnace with a new high efficiency gas furnace would typically require costly venting upgrades. Switching to a heat pump would avoid those added costs and therefore make heat pumps an even more attractive option for millions of homes with aging gas furnaces. \nThese increased efficiency standards combined with the continuing phase out of fossil gas combustion through city and state electrification mandates and air quality regulations\, are expected to increase fossil gas prices over the coming years. As more homes are electrified and leave the gas system\, a new study from ACEEE that we will discuss in this webinar finds that average gas utility costs per customer can increase between 21% and 129%. \nJoin Electrify Now and the Advanced Water Heating Initiative as we explore these two important and interrelated topics of federal appliance standards and gas price increases. \nREGISTER HERE
