The Community Climate Action Plan goals are to establish a roadmap for the community to achieve fossil fuel use reductions of 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050. Development of the Community Climate Action Plan calls for participation by the entire community. The goals are set\, but how we get there is still being decided. We need community members and organizations to help us figure out how to do this for Bend. \nThe CASC is convening topic-specific working groups to support the development of the Bend Community Climate Action Plan. The topics include energy supply\, energy in buildings\, waste & materials management\, and transportation. The working groups play a vital role of helping brainstorm and develop potential actions we can take as a community to meet our fossil fuel use reduction goals. \nThe first meeting focused on understanding the objectives and barriers for the sector and this meeting will focus on identifying climate actions.

By participating in the working group\, you will be directly providing input into Bend’s C-CAP. The first of the two sector meetings focused on objectives\, barriers\, and equity considerations. The second of the two sector meetings will focus on identifying potential actions for the C-CAP. This is your perfect opportunity to tell them why you support the Clean Energy Jobs bill. \nIf you plan to attend\, please RSVP here!\nThis event will be held at Central Oregon Community College\, Cascade Hall\, Room 246-248. \nEven if you don’t plan to speak during the hearing\, it’s important to show up! We must demonstrate to our Legislators that there is support for Clean Energy Jobs in Central Oregon. \nThe Clean Energy Jobs Bill (HB 2020) would cap carbon emissions for large industrial polluters\, set a price on each ton of carbon pollution\, require large polluters to pay to pollute\, and then invest that money into building Oregon’s renewable energy economy. Passing this bill is the most important next step Oregon can take to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. And we have the best opportunity to pass it this year. \nFor those who do want to testify… There will be an informational prep event on Friday\, March 1st\, where you can ask questions and get help preparing your testimony.

DESCRIPTION:The third installment of ONDA’s Bend High Desert Speaker Series with Jason Kesling\, Environmental Program Director of the Upper Snake River Tribes Foundation. Learn about the establishment and structure of the Upper Snake River Tribes\, and gain an in-depth understanding of how the USRTF is adapting to climate change. From assessing vulnerability to coordinating environmental conservation efforts\, Jason will share his experience and insight into how the Upper Snake River Tribes are taking on current environmental threats. \nPlease note that space is limited and preregistration is required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. The presentation will be held in Worthy Brewing’s Hop Mahal room\, located in the far right corner of the main restaurant. \nAbout the speaker \nJason began working for the Upper Snake River Tribes Foundation in early 2017\, bringing a strong background in Fish and Wildlife biology and natural resource management. Since receiving a degree in Fish and Wildlife from Oregon State University\, Jason has contributed to environmental protection initiatives in a number of capacities. With extensive experience in environmental assessment and wildlife conservation\, Jason is a knowledgeable voice on climate change resiliency\, adaptation and risk assessment.

She holds a doctorate from The University of Michigan\, and a master’s degree from The Juilliard School. \n Kathleen Dean Moore\, an environmental philosopher\, climate activist\, and writer\, has published a dozen books about the beautiful\, reeling world. Her early books of essays – Riverwalking\, Holdfast\, Pine Island Paradox\, Wild Comfort – celebrate the life-graced planet. Now\, her work has turned toward defending it from pillage and plunder\, with three recent books\, Great Tide Rising\, Moral Ground\, and Piano Tide\, a novel.

Join Bend-area speakers Rita Hansen of On-Board Dynamics and Tucker Ruberti of Enelx for a conversation about creating economic opportunities in the era of climate change. \nPlease RSVP!\nRita Hansen\, On-Board Dynamics\nRita Hansen is the CEO and co-founder of Onboard Dynamics\, a company that seeks to lower fuel costs and carbon emissions by removing refueling infrastructure barriers to driving natural gas vehicles. Rita has over 30 years of executive management\, engineering and operations management\, and project management experience in a diverse range of industries. Since 2006\, she has specialized in early phase environments which focus on global opportunities in the energy and environmental sectors. \nTucker Ruberti\, of Enelx\nTucker Ruberti is the Director or Technical Sales for the Enel X energy storage business.  In his role he leads the North American technical sales and analysis organization to develop simulation\, design\, configuration and financial analysis.  The team leverages the Enel X multi-value stream optimization capabilities to extract the maximum customer value in any application. Mr. Ruberti earned a BS in Industrial Engineering from Cornell University and an MS in Environmental Management & Policy from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  He has worked in the energy technology since 1993\, working for a broad range of companies including Advanced Energy\, Westinghouse\, General Electric\, and NYSERDA in diverse applications including energy storage\, PV\, fuel cells and power distribution.

DESCRIPTION:Our Legislative leaders have an opportunity to take action NOW on our climate crisis in 2020! \nWealthy polluters and other special interests using their influence to prevent and water down bold climate action\, and next Saturday we have a critical opportunity to weigh in and make our voices heard in Salem. \nWe need your help in Salem on Saturday\, February 8th to make a clear stand for bold climate action. \nJoin us Saturday\, February 8th at 10am at our State Capitol (900 Court St NE Salem\, OR 97301) outside Hearing Room C.
