The resulting plan provides a policy framework for decision making on land use and planning related matters in the rural County for the next twenty years. The plan applies to private land in Deschutes County outside of urban growth boundaries.

The Fumes in Focus film helps us visualize the air pollution from gas stoves.  \nJoin The Environmental Center’s Climate Solutions program at our first Power Hour event of the year\, featuring Willamette Valley-based environmental justice organization\, Beyond Toxics. This year\, the Power Hour series will focus on healthy\, energy efficient homes and the resources available to improve our living spaces and the built environment.  \nThe event will feature a screening of Beyond Toxics’ eye-opening documentary\, Fumes in Focus\, highlighting the real health and environmental impacts of natural gas stoves that often go unseen. This project utilized advanced FLIR (forward looking Infrared) technology to capture and visualize the immediate emissions during stove operation.  \nLisa Arkin\, Executive Director of Beyond Toxics’ will present more information on their Visualizing Air Pollution in Gas Stoves study and be available for questions from attendees. Other local organizations and businesses who can help connect folks with resources to learn more about upgrading appliances in their homes such as Energize Bend and GreenSavers will be available at the event. \nMeet our speaker\nLisa Arkin\, the Executive Director of Beyond Toxics\, has provided innovative policy leadership and grassroots organizing for Beyond Toxics since 2006. Under her guidance\, Beyond Toxics embraced the principles of diversity and equity\, and adopted an anti-racist ethos to become Oregon’s first environmental justice organization. Arkin is dedicated to placing human rights\, racial and social justice at the forefront of all environmental protection and climate resiliency policies. DESCRIPTION:Please join Oregon Environmental Council on Monday\, May 6th from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\, for a virtual webinar taking a closer look at this year’s state legislative session. \nOur guest speaker is state Senator Janeen Sollman\, Chair of the Senate Energy and Environment Committee. She played a pivotal role as an environmental champion this session\, including passing Oregon’s landmark Right to Repair legislation. \nThe conversation will be hosted by OEC’s Executive Director\, Jana Gastellum and alumni Legislative Director\, Thomas Baker. Together\, they’ll give an insider’s perspective on how last session’s key environmental wins set the stage for future progress\, as well as how the losses will impact Oregonians. \nWe hope you can join us on Monday\, May 6 for this informative discussion on OEC’s work and legislative achievements in the 2024 session.

DESCRIPTION:In partnership\, Central Oregon Community College\, The Environmental Center\, Central Oregon BIPOC\, and High Desert Food and Farm Alliance are proudly presenting  a screening of the documentary Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land followed by a panel discussion on Tuesday\, May 7\, 2024 at 6 pm in Central Oregon Community College’s Hitchcock Auditorium. \nThis exclusive screening will mark the Central Oregon debut of Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land from Executive Producer Al Roker. Gaining Ground explores why Black ownership of farmland has dwindled to alarmingly low numbers and examines the causes\, effects\, and solutions to the issues affecting Black land loss. \nAfter the screening\, audiences are invited to stay for a discussion moderated by Marcus LeGrand\, COCC’s Afrocentric Program Coordinator that will include. Dr. Dalton Miller-Jones\, retired Professor and member Restorative Justice and Equity Group. \nFree admission and reservations are not required.

DESCRIPTION:RSVP HERE! \nDo you work with a Community Organization in Central Oregon? Are you a local elected official in Central Oregon? Come learn about how your constituents can benefit from The Environmental Center’s brand new Free Home Energy Assessment Program. \nWe are teaming up with Energy Trust of Oregon to provide free home energy assessments to communities who have been historically underserved by Energy Trust Programs. The energy assessments will evaluate the energy efficiency of the participants’ home and then connect them with increased financial incentives and support to complete home energy upgrades to improve the comfort and affordability. \nJulie Williams\, the founder of Seeds for the Sol\, a community organization in Corvallis\, will be joining us to lead a discussion about their successful Home Energy Program and how The Environmental Center can achieve success here in Central Oregon. \nIf you’re interested in connecting your clients/members with the program\, come to our Community Partner Launch event to learn more.

SUMMARY:Vision Roadshow: Drake-to-Juniper Event
DESCRIPTION:Since the release of the five-year Vision Action Plan\, Envision Bend has been working with vision lead partners to align efforts\, spark action\, and track collective progress. In the coming months\, Envision Bend will be hosting a Summer Vision Roadshow at various coffee shops and breweries around town for the community to learn more about various strategies. The first event on June 1st focuses on the ‘Drake to Juniper Pedestrian Corridor’ vision strategy. \nMeet outside the Commons Cafe at 9:00am for a 2.25-mile group bike ride in partnership with Bend Bikes to Juniper Park via the Midtown Crossings at Franklin and Greenwood. We will reconvene at 10am on the patio of the Commons Cafe to hear from the City transportation planning staff and Bend Bikes with updates on improvements to our Midtown Crossings\, the Hawthorne Bridge\, and the community’s shared vision to connect Drake Park to Juniper Park as outlined in the Vision Action Plan. \nStay tuned for additional Vision-themed events throughout the summer\, such as ‘Railroad Safety and Redevelopment’ on June 27th at Bevel Brewing; a strategy that was created from public input to move the railroad and address safety concerns. There will also be events focused on ‘Expanding Access to Childcare’ in July\, ‘Outdoors for Everyone’ in August\, and ‘City of Belonging’ in September. \nTo register\, visit envisionbend.org and sign up for the Envision Bend newsletter to stay up-to-date. Home upgrades like insulation\, efficient heating systems\, hybrid water heaters\, and new windows\, can increase the comfort of your home and save you money on your energy bills. This information session is a great opportunity to see if you qualify*\, ask questions\, chat with our program manager\, and sign up to participate. \nQualification criteria: \nYou identify as a person of color\, a person living with disabilities\, a rural resident\, or a person with low to moderate income \nAND \nYou are a homeowner or renter in a single-family home\, manufactured home\, or multifamily residence that is an attached side-by-side unit \nAND \nYou live in Oregon and heat your home with electricity or natural gas provided by Pacific Power or Cascade Natural Gas.
