SUMMARY:Building a Climate-Resilient Future: Innovative Design and New Public Policies
DESCRIPTION:Oregon’s second-largest source of climate pollution comes from the energy we use to heat\, cool\, and operate offices\, commercial businesses\, homes\, and public buildings. These same buildings are also a line of defense against climate threats like extreme heat and wildfire smoke. Buildings are therefore an essential component in combating climate change and protecting us from the threats that are already here. Smart buildings also use less energy and can make operating buildings and homes more affordable. \nThis event will explore what sustainable building innovators are doing here in Oregon to raise the bar for climate-smart buildings\, how more progressive building policies and incentives can facilitate this important transition\, and what our workforce’s needs and protections are going forward.

DESCRIPTION:Bobbie is the director of Tamástslikt (Tah-MAHST-slickt) Cultural Institute\, the 45\,000 square foot tribally-owned museum on the Umatilla Reservation near Pendleton\, Oregon. The Institute serves three goals: providing the most accurate history of the Cayuse\, Umatilla\, and Walla Walla peoples\, perpetuation of tribal knowledges\, and improving the Tribal economy. DESCRIPTION:When:  Thursday Aug 11\, Tuesday Aug 16\, Tuesday Aug 23 and Tuesday Aug 30\, 5:15 to Dusk \nWhere:  Meet at the old Ray’s parking lot\, NE corner of Simpson Ave and Century Drive in Bend \nWorksite:  Varies \nThere’s only one thing better than mountain biking in Bend\, OR and that’s riding in Bend\, knowing that you helped build and maintain the trails you love. \nPlease bring a hydration pack with water and a snack. \nBe sure to bring appropriate layers to accommodate whatever the weather may be. \nQuestions?  contact@cotamtb.com \nAll COTA trail work events require the following safety measures: \nAll participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment: \n\nSturdy shoes or boots\nGloves\nEye protection with clear or light colored lens\nLong pants\n\nDue to COTA’s insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work\, we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events: \n\nFor anyone 14 years of age or younger\, we require one parent\, guardian\, or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.\nAll minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian available to sign our waiver.\n\nAnyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if he/she cannot meet the above requirements.
