SUMMARY:Combatting Racism on Oregon's Public Lands
DESCRIPTION:It is a known fact that racism is a problem on public lands\, and many communities do not feel safe or welcome when recreating. While efforts have been made by individual leaders and organizations to create more equitable and inclusive conditions\, the work is far from over. Luckily\, there are state-based solutions that seek to make a difference. \nJoin Oregon Wild for a discussion on what the state of Oregon is doing to address racism on public lands. Oregon Wild has hosted webinars in the past to learn about the challenges communities of color face in outdoor recreation and conservation\, but this webinar will explore solutions being implemented at the state level to address these injustices.

SUMMARY:Housing and Belonging -- A Virtual Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Housing and houselessness are visible and divisive issues in local media\, in politics\, and across different communities within our state. Many community members were experiencing housing instability and economic uncertainty even during the “boom” times before the COVID-19 crisis. This conversation will explore common assumptions and perspectives about the experience of houselessness and how many make snap judgments about who ‘belongs’ in our neighborhoods. Presenters will seek to answer the questions\, How do we decide who ‘belongs’ in our community? And what actually makes us feel ‘safe’? \nThis is a Conversation Project sponsored by Oregon Humanities. The Conversation Project brings people together to talk about their beliefs and experiences around timely and important issues and ideas.

SUMMARY:Nature Nights: Is Climate Anxiety Bad for the Planet?
DESCRIPTION:Save the date! The Land Trust is pleased to present their 2022 Nature Nights series. \n“The chronic fear of environmental doom” is how the American Psychological Association defines eco-anxiety\, and it is on the rise around the world\, as communities increasingly experience the effects of climate change. Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Dr. Sarah Jaquette Ray as we take a look at climate anxiety. Drawing on her recent book\, Dr. Ray will explore climate anxiety\, who feels it\, and how it affects our ability to address climate change. She’ll share details on how climate anxiety is leaving many immobilized and/or apathetic\, and offer some emotional skills to help us all navigate this era of climate crisis. Learn how you can manage your climate anxiety and become a stronger advocate for climate action. \n*This presentation is free and registration will open on February 2nd.
