SUMMARY:Reclaiming Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Kicking off Oregon Natural Desert Association’s 2022 High Desert Speaker Series is a conversation with filmmaker Faith E. Briggs. For years\, Faith would run through the streets of Brooklyn each morning\, before turning her attention to run 150 miles through three US National Monuments to assess the stakes of public lands conservation and what is lost if previously protected lands are reduced. This talk will feature a screening of her short film “This Land” and Faith’s personal story to share lessons learned as a budding “conservationist” working through a cultural lens\, weaving in reflections on people\, entry points to conservation movements\, and place. \n*Registration will open on January 15 and close two hours before the event begins

SUMMARY:Whychus Creek 101: Watershed Overview and History
DESCRIPTION:Upper Deschutes Watershed Council is coordinating a six-part informational speaker series about Whychus Creek and its watershed! They are working with natural resource partners to present an educational watershed series for community members to learn about the history\, hydrology\, habitat conditions\, native fish\, water conservation\, stream restoration activities\, and ways that YOU can become an engaged steward for Whychus Creek. They will coordinate each session with presentations from their partners from the Deschutes National Forest\, Deschutes River Conservancy\, Oregon Water Resource Department\, the Fly FIsher’s Place\, the City of Sisters\, Three Sisters Irrigation District\, and others. The series will culminate with an in-person tour of restoration projects along Whychus Creek. \nThe speaker series will be held at the Sisters Library.  All presentations will be delivered in-person with a virtual attendance option.
