DESCRIPTION:When:  Thursday Aug 11\, Tuesday Aug 16\, Tuesday Aug 23 and Tuesday Aug 30\, 5:15 to Dusk \nWhere:  Meet at the old Ray’s parking lot\, NE corner of Simpson Ave and Century Drive in Bend \nWorksite:  Varies \nThere’s only one thing better than mountain biking in Bend\, OR and that’s riding in Bend\, knowing that you helped build and maintain the trails you love. \nPlease bring a hydration pack with water and a snack. \nBe sure to bring appropriate layers to accommodate whatever the weather may be. \nQuestions?  contact@cotamtb.com \nAll COTA trail work events require the following safety measures: \nAll participants are required to have the following protective clothing and equipment: \n\nSturdy shoes or boots\nGloves\nEye protection with clear or light colored lens\nLong pants\n\nDue to COTA’s insurance requirements and the inherent dangers of trail work\, we must implement the following policy regarding children at work events: \n\nFor anyone 14 years of age or younger\, we require one parent\, guardian\, or responsible adult for supervision of every four kids attending any COTA trail work events.\nAll minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian available to sign our waiver.\n\nAnyone who arrives for a work event may be turned away if he/she cannot meet the above requirements.

SUMMARY:Deschutes NF Volunteer Information Night
DESCRIPTION:The Deschutes National Forest in partnership with Discover Your Forest is hosting a Volunteer Information Night on Thursday\, October 18th\, 2018 to offer information to members of the public interested in assisting with educational programs at Mt. Bachelor and other locations on the Forest. \nThe event is focused on recruiting volunteers to serve as winter interpretive rangers and winter conservation education rangers; however individuals interested in other volunteer opportunities are welcome and encouraged to attend. \nVolunteer Rangers will represent the U.S. Forest Service at Mt. Bachelor. Programs taking place this winter include: Ski with a FS Interpretive Ranger\, Snowshoe with a FS Interpretive Ranger\, our youth education based programs Project S.N.O.W and Jr. Snow Ranger. Duties include delivering mile long snowshoe tours or skiing blue ski runs while providing formal interpretive talks. SUMMARY:Boulder-Sized Transportation Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Bend has often been compared to Boulder\, Colorado (Pop. 107\,000) for its entrepreneurial culture\, small town feel with big town amenities\, and abundance of recreational opportunities. It’s natural to look to this innovative peer city for cues on how they view and manage multi-modal transportation and report progress.\n\n \nBoulder’s Director of Public Works for Transportation\, Mike Gardner-Sweeney\, will be in Bend to give us a glimpse into his city’s Transportation Master Plan and provide creative solutions to some of Bend’s biggest transportation concerns. Mike will share some Boulder solutions that include:\n\n\n\nRegular Transportation “Report Card” to the Community (9 key plan objectives)\n\n\n\n\n\nSafety (Vision Zero) and Maintenance as “Core Priorities”\n\n\n\n\n\nLocal transportation sales tax since 1967\n\n\n\n\n\nComplete Streets\, Low-Stress Multimodal Network\, and Walkable Neighborhoods\n\n\n\n\n\nMinimized Congestion/travel time on major streets\n\n\n\n\n\nExpanded “Eco Pass” system for residents\, employees\, students\n\n\n\n\n\nExpanded transportation options for commuters (in city\, regional)\n\n\n\n\n\n“Renewed Vision for Transit” in 2018 city Transportation Master Plan\n\n\n\n\n\nRegional bus rapid transit connections (inter-city)\n\n\n\n \nSince Bend is creating its new Transportation System Plan\, members of Bend’s Citywide Transportation Advisory Committee will lead this forum. Gardner-Sweeney served as acting director of the Transportation Division from December 2014 to March 2016. He has worked with the Transportation Division for the past 25 years\, serving in a variety of roles in operations\, planning and management\, including principal transportation engineer\, transportation operations and planning manager. Before joining the city\, he worked at the City of Loveland\, CO\, as well as at RTD and TransPlan Associates\, Inc.\, in different capacities. Gardner-Sweeney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural engineering from the University of Colorado.
