DESCRIPTION:Join us in California for the 2016 Natural Areas Conference\, which will explore strategies and tactics that resource and natural areas managers can employ to prepare for and respond to climate change. View our special Video Invitation from Conference Chair Hugh Safford for preview of coming attractions.\n\nThe campus of the University of California-Davis will be the setting for this event\, which will explore themes including connecting ecological restoration and adaptation\, assisted migration\, tree planting\, prescribed fire and wildland fire use\, native plant materials\, meadow and stream restoration\, pollinators and carbon and biomass markets.\n\n\n\nWe have an impressive line-up for our two-day plenary session\, including James Aronson\, Greg Aplet\, Valerie Eviner\, Don Falk\, Healy Hamilton\, Richard Hobbs\, Katharine Suding\, Chris Swanston\, and John Wiens.\n\n\nAccess more details on our conference website. Registration will open in late July. DESCRIPTION:Meet up with others in our intrepid group for local birding. We meet at Nancy P’s Bakery on Newport Avenue just east of Newport Market in Bend. From there we depart on weekly half day or full day trips to venues in our area. Meet-up times are usually 7AM in the Spring and Summer and 8AM in Fall and Winter. Trip plans are posted on COBOL each week prior to the trip. \nTransportation is via carpool depending on who can drive and individual schedules. SUMMARY:Climbing Redwood Giants
DESCRIPTION:Giant Coast Redwoods up close and up high as researcher Steve Sillett climbs 300+ foot trees and reveals a whole unexpected tree canopy ecosystem of huckleberries\, salamanders\, ferns and soil.  This film explores why we ardently care about these tallest and most magnificent trees\, with amazing photography.  A retired Forest Ranger who participated in the filming will share her personal insights after the 45-minute film. \nAt the Environmental Center\, 6:30 pm gathering/snacks\, 7:00 program. $5 suggested donation. Open to the public.
