SUMMARY:Lexicon of Sustainability Art Show
DESCRIPTION:Come on down to The Environmental Center to view the ongoing pop-up art show of the Lexicon of Sustainability. This project is based on a simple principle: people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they don’t know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability. \nBy illuminating the vocabulary of sustainable agriculture\, and with it\, the conversation about America’s rapidly evolving food culture\, the Lexicon of Sustainability educated\, engages\, and activates people to pay closer attention to how they eat\, what they buy\, and where their responsibility begins for creating a healthier\, safer food system in America. \nThe show will be hanging on the outside front porch and in the Audubon room\, High Desert room\, and hallway of The Environmental Center through the rest of July and August. Take your time looking through the art\, and when you are done\, please answer our question: How are you Living the Green in Bend? From all of the answers submitted\, we will be drawing for 2 free tickets to the sold-out Jack Johnson All At Once show on August 24th. The Environmental Center is one of a few nonprofits in OR to be sponsored during this show! SUMMARY:Wildflowers hike on Broken Top
DESCRIPTION:Wildflowers on Broken Top \nWitness the spectacular glaciated scenery\, windblown pines and hemlocks\, and alpine wildflowers in the High Cascades west of Bend with wildflower expert Stu Garrett. We will have breath-taking views of the Sisters and Broken Top. We will visit a hidden glacial lake that frequently has icebergs floating in it. We will do mostly off-trail hiking through the Three Sisters Wilderness\, so hiker numbers are limited. \nMeet at 8am\, back in the late afternoon. \nPlease bring a lunch & snacks; 6 miles round trip with 1\,700ft. elevation gain; moderate to strenuous\, and not suitable for beginners; no dogs. \nEmail  moey@centraloregonlandwatch.org to RSVP.

Come out to sample products\, meet the producers\, hear their stories\, and support local!  Meet The Maker Markets is a collaborative effort between High Desert Food and Farm Alliance and Whole Foods Market that seek to engage local shoppers with Central Oregon farmers\, producers\, and ranchers. These annual “pop-up” markets allow farmers to reach a broader customer base that might otherwise not have discovered the myriad of local products available within the region.
