Stream Sampling on Whychus Creek

August 12 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

With the longest days of summer already upon us, Upper Deschutes Watershed Council is gearing up for Year 9 of Stream Sampling on Whychus Creek this August 12th. Each year’s stream sampling data contributes new insights about the health of Whychus Creek and how stream restoration is changing conditions for fish and other aquatic life. Data from 2016 described an aquatic insect community characterized by sensitive kinds (“taxa”) of macroinvertebrates and taxa associated with flowing water – indicators of a healthy stream. But, 2016 data also provided support for an emerging warming trend in Whychus Creek  that may signal a response to a changing climate.

Help to sample Whychus Creek in 2017! Sites up and down Whychus Creek will help us understand what conditions in the creek are like for macroinvertebrates and native redband trout this year, with more abundant water resources after our long snowy winter, and how those conditions compare to earlier years.

Please RSVP.
