Household Hazardous Waste
How to reduce chemical and hazardous materials in your home.
Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes the products in your home that are corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive. These may include things such as cleaners, solvents, oils, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals found in your home, basement or garage.
Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes can be harmful to our environment. Never pour them down the drain, on the ground, into storm sewers or put them in the garbage.
The Deschutes County Hazardous Waste Facility is located at Knott Landfill and is open on the 2nd and 4th Fridays and Saturdays of each month from 9am - 3pm.
Alternatives to Toxics in Your Home
Using greener cleaners and substances in your home and yard improve your indoor air quality and provide a safer environment for your children and pets. For years, people have used basic ingredients such as vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda to clean their homes. Now there are many other "greener cleaners" that you can buy at grocery and specialty stores.
