2011 Salmon Run
2011 Salmon Run set for May 7th
(BEND) The Environmental Center is pleased to present its annual Salmon Run on Saturday, May 7th, 9am, at Riverbend Park in Bend.
The Salmon Run is one of Central Oregon’s longest standing and most anticipated 5K and 10K run or walk events. The race starts at 9am and ends around 12noon. Pre- and post-race activities include warm-ups, food, vendor booths and an awards ceremony. A kids obstacle course and foot race makes the event something special for all ages. Salmon Run is also a great training run for the Pole Pedal Paddle, two weeks later, as the course is very similar to the PPP course.
Salmon Run raises funds for The Environmental Center’s youth education programs, including its new focus on getting kids outside through field trips, outdoor school days, and scholarships for summer outdoor programs.
“By participating in the Salmon Run, folks are helping us get more kids outside and connecting to the natural world,” says Mike Riley, Executive Director of The Environmental Center. “And that’s important because research shows that being outside helps make kids physically and mentally strong, and also better environmental stewards as adults.”
Racer categories for both the 5K and 10K include Adults (15-39), Masters (40+), and Youth (14 & under). The Kids Salmon Run and obstacle course is for ages 5 and under.
Early registration is underway at www.envirocenter.org. Late registration begins May 5th, when prices will increase by $5.
The Salmon Run is sponsored by the Focus Physical Therapy, The Footzone, Whole Foods, the City of Bend, Pacific Power, the tenBroek-Hilber Group, Home Federal Bank, Northwest Crossing, 92/9 FM, True North Parenting, The Source and Central Oregon Magazine.
The Environmental Center’s mission is to embed sustainability into daily life.
