May 17 Transportation Bond Measure: Complete Streets or Moving More Cars Faster?
A sustainable community has "complete streets" for all forms of transportation, including biking, walking and riding the bus. Is the May 17 bond measure just about moving more cars faster? Or will it also invest in needed infrastructure for walking, biking and riding the bus that support community health and sustainability?

On May 17, Bend voters will be asked to support a $30 million bond measure for road and intersection improvements.
A sustainable community has "complete streets" for all forms of transportation, including biking, walking and riding the bus. Complete streets not only reduce carbon emissions and other environmental impacts, they also reduce congestion and combat obesity by getting people out of their cars.
Is the May 17 bond measure just about moving more cars faster? Or will it also invest in needed infrastructure for walking, biking and riding the bus that support community health and sustainability?
Join The Environmental Center's Board of Directors and staff as we learn more about the proposed bond measure, the specific improvement projects it will fund, and what it means for our tax bills. City Manager Eric King and other City staff will provide the factual background about the measure, including why the specific projects were selected and what non-car infrastructure will be included.
We'll also hear the argument in support of the measure from Bend Mayor Jeff Eager, Mayor Pro Tem Jodie Barram, and Neil Bryant of the Better Roads for Bend PAC. And then we'll have lots of time for our and your questions.
