Peru is recognized as one of the richest countries in the world for birds with more than 1,800 species, of which 85% are all-time residents. It is second only to Brazil in number of endemics with 117 species found nowhere else and second only to the “islands” of Indonesia in the number of species with restricted geographical ranges, 20% of all bird species are found in Peru.
