Imagine what Bend might look like if it were one of the most environmentally sustainable cities in the world.  That was the challenge taken up by the Bend Living City Design Project,  an independent, all-volunteer team of Bend architects, planners and students.

The team's answer was entered in the Living Cities Design Competition sponsored by the International Living Building Institute (www.ilbi.org),  one of 80 entries from around the world.  Winners will be announced at the Living Future 2011 conference in Vancouver, B.C. at the end of this month.

You can be among the first to learn about what this team envisioned during their month-long planning exercise, including some images of a Bend you've never seen before.

OSU-Cascades invites community members to discover how the local local team envisioned Bend’s future for the competition, when it reveals The Bend Living City Design Project on Wednesday, April 20 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Cascades Hall, room 247.

Competition guidelines stipulated that all entries comply with the 20 imperatives of ILBI’s Living Building Challenge – and be based on proven and available technologies.  Otherwise, no constraints were given to entrants.

The Bend LCD Project focuses on the central area of Bend, including the downtown area.  It is built on City of Bend plans, data and forecasts, and designed to be transferable to other parts of the City.  It is also consistent with key elements of the Bend 2030 Vision.

The reveal of the Bend Living Cities Design project is sponsored by Bend 2030, Brooks Resources and OSU-Cascades.  The graphic boards will continue to be displayed in Cascades Hall through April.
