LOCAL BUSINESSES MAKING CHANGE AND SAVING MONEY
By implementing change, both big and small, organizations can save natural resources and money.  Below is a sampling of small things that local businesses have done in the past.

Wanderlust Tours

Wanderlust Tours is an eco-tourism company that offers guided hikes, canoe trips, winter camping and snowshoeing on a year-round basis in Central Oregon. Wanderlust reduced the number of mailings they were sending out by placing 816 clients on an email list or taking them off their twice a year mailing list altogether. These clients were receiving a mailing twice a year with a brochure and letter. By sending the information using email, the touring company is saving $850 annually and 71 pounds of paper.

The Deschutes Brewery Administrative office houses a front desk, sales area, and conference room on the first floor, offices on the second floor and a large banquet room with a kitchen area on the third floor used for tours and special events. There are twenty- five, on-site employees. The Brewery purchased their first batch of recycled content copy paper through the Recycled Products Purchasing Cooperative. The brewery purchased 20 cases of copy paper saving 4 full-grown trees and $720 annually on copy paper costs.

RBD Enterprises

RBD Enterprises is a small Bend company that remanufactures electron microscopes. There are six full-time employees in their office. RBD Enterprises were purchasing Styrofoam peanuts to ship the delicate microscopes back to their owners after repairs were completed. A local home furnishing business was receiving a huge quantity of peanuts with their shipments and needed an outlet for them.  A material exchange was formed between the two businesses saving 600 pounds of Styrofoam peanuts from being purchased and wasted and $600 annually.
